The time at Heathrow passed very quickly. A three hour check in sounds a lot but we really didn't seem to be hanging around at all. Before we knew it we were down in the bowels of Terminal five on the transit whisking us away to pretty well the furthest gate. Thank goodness for the transit.
The flight has been fine after a shaky start with the entertainment system, which wasn't working. After two reboots, which took about 20 minutes each, the captain took advice from ground control and hey presto an hour or so into the flight it was up and running. Huge excitement turned to dismay as it turns out to be the worst system we've experienced. Himself watched an ancient episode of Top Gear, well somebody had to. I perused the films and decided the Times crossword, a fiendish sudoku and a read of my book was the best course of action.
Dinner was schezwan chicken. I'm sure that is spelled wrong but it wasn't very nice. The best bit was the pud, a very very nice chocolate orange mousse, which wasn't very mousse like but was delicious.
Now it's almost midnight and only 2 more hours to go. Not sure how we're going to cope with sightseeing when neither of us have managed to sleep. Maybe an afternoon walk in the gardens of the summer palace followed by afternoon tea will be enough.
It is now half past midnight and breakfast is about to be served! I just want to go to sleep.
Whilst queuing for the loo I got chatting to a couple with a Welsh accent. I asked them where they were from and would you believe they said Carmarthen. It turns out they live just outside on the Llansteffan road. Most places they could've said I wouldn't have had a clue but we were only in Llansteffan a couple of weeks ago having a lovely time with all the grandchildren and Natalie and Laura. It's a small world.
