Day 11

A very enjoyable evening spent drinking cocktails before going to bed far too late, especially as we had an early start today. Breakfast was 7am and at 8:15 we set off on our shore excursion to visit Ghost City Temple, which was very interesting.

On the way we passed stalls selling edible delicacies. Here are just a few that we spotted, pigs head, trotters and tongue. Glad I'd just had breakfast so wasn't tempted.

We did cross over the destiny bridge, built 679 years ago, successfully. The idea is you hold the hand of your partner and set off over the slippery steep bridge, left foot first for the male and right foot first for the female and count only nine steps across. I didn't dare to go wrong, just in case, so it looks as though I'll be stuck with himself for ever.

We saw yet more Buddhas, together with the statues of evil spirits. This is naughty god who you threaten your children with if they misbehave. Wouldn't do at home would it!

The last place we visited was hell and this is where you go if your naughty. This is what happens to men who stray. Be warned.

This is what happens to a gossip, her tongue is cut out.

After we returned to the boat we had lunch, followed by a lecture on Chinese medicine by the ship's doctor, a talk on the history of the Yangztze and then a welcome reception with the captain. We are relaxing now before we have drinks from 5:30 to 6:30 and then dinner at 7:15. It's all go.
